Stale fuel causing engine failures

 In my review of videos on small engine repair (of lawn mowers) it was mentioned that common cause of engine failure was stale fuel due to winter storage.   It was mentioned that fuel should not be allowed to sit down for not more 6 weeks (60 days others say).   All of sorts of things happen to fuel:    water, some additives solidify, dirt ingested into the fuel tank.  

Such rubbish could be ingested into the intakek manifold and ultimately into the cylinders which could cause engine not to fire or stall.   

So after the long winter, or after long storage you have to spill the fuel and replace this How?

    1  By tilting the eninge?

    2  Or draining the tankk and carb?   (open the dome and bottom.

To solve the problem and go around stuck carb needle, lift the mower (the walk behind)  up.

Not many are enthusiastic to read this mechanic repair blog

But I enjoy watching the posts on repairs especially the Pakistani, Indian repairs and the Diesel Creek post.   I think the goal of every repair is to save money and make every machinery, even junk to work in perpetuam.  Nothing is ever far from repairs  Everything can be made to run again and some principles must be observed.

1.  Have compelete set of tools, Right tool for the right job.  Now it is a must that you have electric portable hand tools 

2.  The steps are:  clean, remove, inspect, check and replace if totally wrecked.  Buy new spares for those that can be repaired.

3  Those that need repair can be classified as:  

     1  No lubrication; dirty

     2,  Out of spec:   misaligned, loose, tight or rusted

     3.  complete wrecked


    The solutions are:

    1,  No lubrication:    degrease, put penetrating oil,  smoothen out, wipe, and put oil or grease

    2.  Out of spec:

         1.  Straighten -  hammer of use hydraulic press or jack

         2  Heat those that are tight or rusted;   grind

         3.  Complete wreck -  buy  a new spare

Repairing stiff clutch pedal

 Most mechanics would recommend a P40K transmission take down and repair.  But it would cost not more than P1,000 to repair this.   All you need is understanding the mechanical principles, having some tools and common sense.

The cause of the hard pedal would be worn out slave piston assembly, dirty hydraulic (brake fluid) stuck up spring.  

You can remove the piston and the attachment to the clutch fork lever.  Then remove the piston from the assembly.  Its either you replace the rubber, the piston (or sand paper the piston and the cylinder.  Then bleed.  With these procedures, the clutch pedal should work all right afterwards.

 It could be due to the intercooler.   Signs of defective intercooler:   black soot and oil at the underside from the leak.
